Union Gospel Mission

You are still welcome to drop off donations until noon on Monday, December 18.

Christmas is coming; a time of hope and giving! As a school we have the privilege of partnering with the Union Gospel Mission to support their outreach work in our community. We are collecting a variety of items to bless the many people who use the services provided by the UGM. Next week, from December 11 until December 15, we will begin our Christmas collection for the UGM.

This year we have assigned items for donation to grade levels.
Grades K-2: Single packaged soaps and facecloths
Grades 3-5: Single packaged toothbrushes and small toothpastes
Grades 6-7: Deodorant sticks

There will be a display basket in the foyer in which to place collected items. Canned goods and monetary donations are also welcome; cheques are payable to the New Westminster UGM and may be dropped off at the school office.
Thank you!

As 2017 draws to a close, we ask you to look back upon your giving for this year. Have you made your yearly donation to John Knox? With rising construction costs, the Capital Campaign for our high school building needs the support of every family in our school!

Make your 2017 donation to the Capital Campaign by dropping a cheque off at the office, or donating online at canadahelps.org. Donations received before the Christmas break will receive a donation receipt for 2017.

At this time of year, there is always a possibility of rain turning to snow. Therefore, it’s a good time to remind you that if the weather report is forecasting snow, check CKNW 980 AM radio, the front page of the John Knox website, the MyJKCS app, or Global TV (channel 11) to find out if the school will be closed. The decision to close the school is made between 6:00am and 7:00am, so check after 7:15am.

Crochet @ lunch

For the past 3 weeks, many Grade 5 students have been learning to crochet in the library.  If your child is in Grade 5, encourage them to join in the fun every Thursday at lunch in the library.

Plan to attend this important meeting at 7:30pm on Thursday, November 30th. You will be updated on our finances and what’s happening in our Elementary and High School Campuses.

Applied Design Skill and Technologies Modules coming to Grades 6 and 7!

Next week (November 22 and 24) all grade 6 and 7 students will spend two days learning about design, skills, and tools in one of the following areas: textiles, woodworking, power/engines, coding/robotics, bookmaking, foods, and video/media arts. The group leaders are gathering materials and planning exciting learning activities for these students.

In the Textiles Module, students will be sewing small cloth bags and preparing toiletry kits for the Outreach Resource Centre with the Society to End Homelessness. Each Thursday, about 100-120 people come to Southside Community Church to access a lunch, donated clothes, and toiletry items. Mrs. DeWith is collecting mini toiletry items (the ones from hotels or travel size) to make kits for those without a home. Do you have any to donate? Mrs. DeWith will have a box in her grade 7 classroom to collect these toiletry items.   Thank you!

Seeking Scholarships

For Carver’s graduating classes from 2007 to 2017, we have been enabled through the generosity of parents, staff and former parents to award a number of graduation scholarships each year. Scholarships are paid directly to the graduate’s post-secondary institute and range from $500 to $2,000. These are profound affirmations of effort, achievement and ability. Read More
